How to Play Blackjack
Each player plays against the dealer and the highest hand that does not exceed 21 wins. Cards are worth their value (ie. 7 of spades is worth 7), face cards are worth 10 and aces are can be either 1 or 11. A hand that exceeds 21 is called a “bust” and loses automatically.
Players place their bets, then each player is dealt 2 cards to start and the dealer is dealt one card. The cards are all face up for everyone to see. The best hand is an ace and a ten which makes 21. This is called a blackjack and pays 3:2.
Once the cards are dealt players take turns making decisions about their hand. A player can:
- STAY – Keep their hand as is
- HIT – Take another card
- DOUBLE DOWN – Only when you have 2 cards you double your bet and get 1 final card
- SPLIT – When you have 2 cards of the same value you play two hands with the split cards being the first card in each hand
When the players have finished making decisions, the dealer will complete his hand. If the dealer has a 16 or lower he must hit and if the dealer has a 17 or higher he must stay.
When the dealer completes his hand (or busts) then the game is over and the bets are resolved.
